Beloit Senior Brendon Mason and Osborne Junior Roxton Brown have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.
Mason has had a great start to the 2016-17 basketball season for the Trojans. In a tough 57-51 loss to Southeast of Saline last Tuesday, December 13, Mason had a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a career high 14 rebounds. In fact, Mason is averaging a double-double on the season at 16.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg, while also averaging 3.0 bpg. On December 9th in a 63-36 win over Republic County, Mason scored a career high 23 points.
Brown is also off to a good start on the wrestling mats this season. In two meets, he has finished first place in both at the 182 lb weight class. In the season opener, Brown went 5-0 and won the championship at the Osborne Invitational on December 3. In the championship match, he defeated Smith Center's Kaden Meitler by fall in 2:29. On December 10 at the Minneapolis Jeff Giles Memorial Invite, Brown went 3-0, winning an 8-2 decision over Plainville's Ryan Junkermeier in the title bout. Brown is 8-0 on the young season and is currently ranked #5 in the state by the KWCA in 3-2-1A in the 182 lb class.
