Multiple sources, including a source from Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School, have confirmed to KD Country 94 & Z 96.3 Sports that Boys Basketball coach, Cody Flinn, has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Mustangs. Flinn was not present at Tuesday night's game, a 52-42 win over Osborne. In his place, assistant coach Mark Spears assumed the head coaching duties on Tuesday and will stay in that position for the remainder of the season. Spears has spent the past three seasons on the bench as an assistant. He has previous head coaching stops at Lucas-Luray for 12 seasons before the land transfer to the Sylvan Unified district, and also spent four seasons as the head coach for the Wilson boys after his time at Lucas-Luray.
Flinn is also the Athletic Director at SLUHS, and our sources are saying that he has been removed from that position as well. We are efforting to learn more about the situation and have tried to contact administration within USD 299. As of now, we have not received a response, but we will continue to follow this story.
Flinn went 24-17 in just under two seasons as the head coach of the Mustangs. Last season, they made it to the 1A-DII State Tournament before falling to fellow NPL member St. John's/Tipton in the 1st round. Under Flinn this season, the Mustangs were 13-4 overall and 7-2 in the NPL, including a 2nd place at the NPL Tournament in January.
