Lincoln Senior Tia Hayworth and Sacred Heart Junior Caleb Jordan have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.
Hayworth was one of many wrestlers who competed in the 1st ever Kansas Girls High School Wrestling Championship this past Saturday in McPherson. Hayworth wrestled in the 160 lb weight class and finished in 2nd place. In the round robin, she went 3-1 on the day. In her first match, she defeated Dru Longbrake of Atchison-Riverbend by fall in 0:57. In her second match, she picked up another win by fall, this time over Nicole Winsky of McPherson in 5:29. Hayworth's third match saw her only loss of the day, losing by fall in 3:07 to eventual champion Elisa Robinson of Junction City. In her final match, Hayworth won by fall over Katelyn Simmons of McPherson in 3:58.
Jordan had an outstanding performance in Sacred Heart's 62-49 win over Beloit on the hardwood on Tuesday night in Salina. He scored a career high 28 points, going 8-16 from the floor, 4-9 from 3-point land and 8-8 from the FT line. With the win, Sacred Heart picked up their 27th straight league win and clinched their 3rd straight NCAA title. On the season, Jordan is the leading scorer for the Knights, averaging 14.9 ppg.
