Beloit Junior Blayne Harris, Lincoln Freshman Chantz Vath, Republic County Junior Benaiah Rundus, Republic County Senior Trevor Lowell, Minneapolis Senior Austin Constable and Minneapolis Sophomore Tyson Villalpando have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.
All six wrestlers claimed regional championships at the 3-2-1A Regional at Southeast of Saline this past weekend. Harris of Beloit won the 113 lb championship, going 2-0 and winning the championship match by fall over Brian Escobar of Chaparral in just 0:58. Lincoln's Vath took 1st place at 120 lbs, finishing 3-0 and winning a 14-2 major decision over Caden Emmot of Beloit in the finals. Republic County had two champions. Rundus went 3-0 and won by fall over Oscar Jaime of Lyons in 5:34 at 126 lbs. Lowell won the 132 lb championship, going 4-0 and finishing with a 7-4 decision over Tanner Cassity of Hoisington. Minneapolis also brought home two first place finishes. Constable took the gold at 138 lbs, beating Jake Helten of Garden Plain by fall in 5:38 and finishing 3-0. Villalpando took 1st at 182 lbs, winning a 5-2 decision over Harlen Reed of Republic County to finish 3-0 on the weekend.
