The Sacred Heart Knights Boys Basketball team members have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.
Sacred Heart took home the 2A Boys State Championship this past weekend in Manhattan. As the #1 seed in the tournament, they needed a last second shot from Stratton Brown, but they got a 1st round win over #8 seed Hillsboro, 55-54. Brown led the Knights with 20 in the win, while Quinn Riordan scored 18. In the semifinals, the Knights took down the #5 seed Hoxie, 70-51. Caleb Jordan scored 30, including five 3-pointers, while Riordan added 25 in the win. In the championship game on Saturday, Sacred Heart beat #2 seed St. John, as Jordan had 21, including 11-12 from the FT line, and Brown scored 16. The state title for the Knights was the 9th in school history, but their first since 1981.
