Osborne Senior Denton Schurr and the Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns Volleyball team members have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Schurr had a career game in Osborne's 58-40 district opening win over Solomon on Friday night in Osborne.  He ran the ball 49 times for 465 yards and 7 TD in the victory.  All three of those numbers, rushing attempts, yards and carries, were career high marks for Schurr.  He also had eight tackles on defense in the Bulldogs' win.  On the season, he now has 807 yards and 14 TD rushing this season and is averaging 8.8 yards per carry through the first five games.

Thunder Ridge had an outstanding day on the volleyball court on Saturday, as they won the Rock Hills Tournament in Mankato, going 5-0 on the day.  They won their pool play matches over Osborne (25-16, 25-14), Clifton-Clyde (25-16, 26-28, 25-7) and Lincoln (25-9, 25-10).  In the semis, they beat Logan in two, 25-22 and 25-18, then followed that with an impressive championship match win over St. John's/Tipton in two games, 25-7 and 25-20.  The Lady Longhorns are now 21-3 on the season.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
