Members of the Pike Valley Panthers Football team have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Pike Valley moved to 11-0 this past Friday night with a 52-0 win over Central Christian in the Sectional round of the KSHSAA 8-Man DII Playoffs.  In a game that was called at halftime, the Panthers had 215 yards of total offense, as QB Davante Hammer went 9-11 passing for 103 yards and 2 TD.  The offensive numbers were good, but the defensive performance was the most impressive.  Central Christian came into the game averaging just over 70 points per game, as they had scored 704 points in their first ten games and their lowest output in a single game was 60 points.  That all came to a screeching halt, as the Panthers got the shutout win.  Pike Valley's defense had four takeaways in the win, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.  One of the interceptions was returned for a 41-yard touchdown by Cole Strickler, as he led the team with nine tackles and four tackles for loss.  Anton Reeves also pitched in with six tackles and two takeaways with each an interception and a fumble recovery.  With the win, Pike Valley is now on to the 8-Man DII Sub-State round, as they face Hanover on Friday night at 7:00 in Hanover.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
