Members of the Smith Center Chiefs Pee Wee baseball team have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

The Smith Center Chiefs claimed the 2018 Pee Wee State Baseball Championship this past Friday night in Belleville, winning over Waconda in 8 innings, 4-3.  The Chiefs got to the state tournament by finishing as the District 2 runner-up to the Beloit Venom.  They opened State with a 9-0 win over Linn on Tuesday night, then followed that up on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over Clifton in the quarterfinals.  In the semis, they defeated the top team from the east, Washington, 9-7.  That set up the final against Waconda where the Chiefs came away with the one-run win.  With the championship, the Chiefs finished the season with a 15-6 record.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
