Members of the Beloit Trojans, Osborne Bulldogs and Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns basketball teams have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Beloit finished 2nd this season in Class 3A, going 24-2 on the season.  They opened the 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson last Thursday with a 60-39 win over Eureka, using a 22-7 third quarter to roll to the win.  In the semis, they dispatched of Perry-Lecompton, 62-53, behind 21 poitns from Vincent Palen, including 11-12 from the free throw line.  Hudson Smith had double-doubles in the first two games with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first round and 12 and 10 in the semis.  In the state championship game, the Trojans fell to Girard, 49-45.  Carson Cox led Beloit with 20 points, including six three-pointers in the loss.

Osborne took 3rd Place at the 1A State Tournament in Dodge City, finishing with a 25-1 record.  They opened on Thursday with a 44-41 first round win over Lebo behind 17 points from Darnell Holloway and 15 from Steele Wolters.  In the semis, the Bulldogs had a tough 43-37 overtime loss to St. John.  Holloway and Wolters were in double figures again with 13 and 11, respectively.  In the 3rd place game, Osborne defeated Caldwell 49-44 behind a 23-point performance from Darnell Holloway.

Thunder Ridge had their best finish ever in girls hoops, bringing home the 3rd Place trophy at 1A State in Dodge City.  The Lady Longhorns finished 23-3 on the season.  They opened State with a 56-45 win over South Central in the 1st round.  Brennan Kirchhoff led Thunder Ridge with 21 pionts and Mariah Stauffer scored 11.  In the semis, the Lady Longhorns ran up against the best team in the state in Central Plains, falling 78-36.  Jaden Boden scored 15 in the loss.  Boden then followed that up with a 17-point performance in a 54-44 win over Waverly in the 3rd place game.  Elizabeth Hardacre scored 12 and Layne Pettinjohn added 10 as well in the final win.

Along with their great finishes at state, all three teams were also given the KSHSAA Sportsmanship Award for their time in the state tournament.
