The members of the Osborne Bulldogs football team have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Osborne won the 8-Man DII State Championship on Saturday with a 34-26 win over Axtell in Newton.  In a back and forth game, Osborne took the lead for good in the 4th quarter on a 37-yard TD run by Steele Wolters.  Leading 28-26, Wolters scored again, this time from two yards out, with just under 2:00 left to extend the Bulldogs lead to 34-26.  On the first play of Axtell's final possession, Mason Schurr intercepted Axtell QB Quinn Buessing to seal the win.  On the day, Darrien Holloway led the Bulldog rushing attach with 129 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns.  Wolters finished with 11 carries for 111 yards and three scores.  Osborne won their fourth state title in school history and their third at the 8-Man level.  They won 8-Man DI in 2013 & 2016 and also won the 3A championship in 1983.  Osborne coach Steve Tiernan also picked up his fourth state title in his career, winning in 2013 with Osborne and in 2008 and 2010 with Baileyville B&B.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
