Beloit Junior Hunter Prochaska and Sylvan-Lucas Junior Tra Barrientes have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Each of the wrestlers picked up state titles at the 3-2-1A State Wrestling Championship in Hays this past weekend.

Prochaska won the title at 152# for the Beloit Trojans.  He opened the tournament with a win by fall over Warner of Wabaunsee in 3:45.  In the quarterfinals, he picked up another fall in 3:27 over Nowak of Garden Plain.  In the semis, Prochaska fought his way to a 6-3 decision over Roush of Perry-Lecompton.  The championship match was the exact score as the semifinals as a late reversal gave Prochaska a 6-3 win over Brennan Lowe of Eureka, who was 43-2 at the time.  Prochaska finished the season with a 29-7 and a state championship.

Barrientes finished an outstanding season with the state championship at 285#.  He opened the weekend with a win by fall over Walt of Hill City in just 1:10 and followed that up with another fall in just 1:32 over Watts of Humboldt in the quarterfinals.  In the semis, he battled for a 10-5 decision over Creighton Johnson of Beloit.  On Saturday afternoon in the championship match, Barrientes rolled to an 11-4 decision over Eyann Zimmerman of Republic County.  Barrientes finished his season with a 39-1 record and the 285# state title.  His lone loss came on December 13, as he went through the whole 2020 portion of the schedule unbeaten.
