Beloit Junior Owen Eilert has been named the Telephone and Cable Athlete of the Week.

Eilert has had to step into a much bigger leadership role during his junior year at Beloit High School on both the basketball team this winter and the football team this past fall.  On the basketball court, he is coming off of a career game this past Tuesday night against Osborne in a 56-47 Trojan victory.  Eilert scored a career best 25 points on 7-16 shooting, making three three-pointers and shooting 8-9 from the free throw line in the win.  He also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal on Tuesday.  On the season, Eilert is now averaging 13 ppg, which is second best on the team and he is adding 5 rpg and 2 apg.  He is also now shooting 79% (31-39) from the free throw line on the season.

Eilert also helped lead the Beloit Trojans football team to the final four in the 2A football playoffs in the fall.  At the QB position, he directed the offense and threw for just under 700 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.  Beloit finished the season 5-7 after going into the playoffs at 2-6 in 2020.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
