Lakeside Senior Wyatt Eberle and Tipton Sophomore Joshua Towner have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Eberle has excelled in multiple field events during the track and field season this spring.  On Tuesday at the Logan Invitational, he brought home three gold medals, winning the long jump with a jump of 19'9 1/2", the triple jump at 40'10 1/2" and the javelin with a throw of 158'9".  Last Friday at the Beloit Relays, Eberle took 2nd place in the javelin with a season best throw of 161'8".  He has won the gold in the javelin at the Wilson Invitational and the St. John's Invitational earlier this season as well and finished 2nd in the event at the Shocker Pre-State Challenge in Wichita on April 15.  In the triple jump, he also won the gold at Wilson and finished in 4th place at the Pre-State event.  His best jump this season came in the opener at St. John's on April 6, when he finished 2nd place with a jump of 41'8".  His top mark in the long jump this season was 20'1 1/4" at Wilson/Russell on April 28.

Towner has kept a very busy schedule this spring, competing in golf and track and field for Tipton Catholic High School and also for the NCK Raptors mountain bike team in two events so far.  In the two mountain biking races in the NICA, Towner finished 2nd place each time.  In the most recent race at Palen Farms in Tipton, just prior to the race he had a bike that was deemed unable to ride.  Using a loaner bike, he rode a windy course and fought toward the front.  Attempting to pass for the lead, a small mishap sent him to the ground hard, but with a wrecked bike and a beat up body, he was still able to finish the race, coming in 2nd place.  Towner never let his frustration show with high fives and smiles at the finish.  Towner has also had a solid season on the track.  Against a tough field at the Beloit Relays on Friday, he finished 6th place in both the 800m and 1600m.  His top finishes this year came with gold medals in both of those races at the Wilson Invitational on April 28.  His top finish on the golf course this year came in a tie for 5th at Chase on April 8.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
