The Lakeside Knights golf team claimed the 2021 KSHSAA State Sand Greens Golf Championship on Monday at Tipton Oaks Golf Course.  The Knights compiled a team score of 303, which was 62 strokes better than second place St. John's at 365, while Tipton was third with a 378.  The dominant performance from Lakeside saw all five of their golfers finish in the top eight individually.  Junior Kylan Cunningham was the individual state champion for the Knights, shooting a 73 on the day, one stroke ahead of his teammate Terin Winkel who was 2nd plce with a 74.  Cooper Brown shot a 75, finishing in a tie for 3rd with Lathe Watkins of Chase County, and formerly of Osborne.  Rounding out Lakeside's finishers, Eli Hahn took the 6th place medal and Reid Walsh tied for 8th place.  This is the third Sand Greens state title for Lakeside in school history.  They won the tournament in 2004, the first year Lakeside existed, and they also claimed the championship in 2006.  To add even more meaning to the title, Lakeside coach Cory Beougher goes out on a high note as he announced his retirement earlier this spring.
