The members of the Lakeside Knights golf team have been named the Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Lakeside dominated the 2021 KSHSAA State Sand Greens Golf Meet on Monday, winning the team title by 62 strokes.  The Knights registered a team score of 303, led by individual state champion Kylan Cunningham, as the junior shot a 73 for the day.  He was +5 on the front nine, but shot -2 on the back nine to claim the gold medal.  All five of Lakeside's golfers finished in the top eight of the meet.  Sophomore Terin Winkel finished just one stroke back of Cunningham with a 74 in 2nd place overall.  Junior Cooper Brown tied for 3rd, shooting a 75 on the day, while Sophomore Eli Hahn finished in 6th with an 81 and Sophomore Reid Walsh finished in a tie for 8th, shooting an 87.  The state championship for Lakeside was their third in program history, but their first in 15 years.  In their first year in existence, they claimed the 2004 Sand Greens title and then won again in 2006.  Also of significance, their head coach Cory Beougher has retired, going out on top with the state title.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
