The area athletes who claimed championships at the KSHSAA State Track & Field Championships have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.

Southeast of Saline dominated the 3A ranks on the boys side, claiming a team title last Friday in Wichita.  Individual state champions for the Trojans included Dylan Sprecker in the 800m (1:55.34) and the 1600m (4:17.74); Chase Poague in the 100m Hurdles (14.93) and the 300m Hurdles (39.38) and the Southeast boys 4x400m Relay (8:12.87).  Also for the Southeast of Saline Girls, Jentrie Alderson claimed two state titles, the 1600m (5:11.59) and the 3200m (11:13.06).  Also in Class 3A, Brennan Walker of Beloit was the Boys Javelin state champion with a throw of 184'1".

On Saturday, state champions were crowned in six different events for area athletes in Class 1A.  Reagan Bales of Osborne won the Boys 800m (1:59.53) and 1600m (4:30.32); Lauryn Dubbert from St. John's won the Girls Javelin (132'11"); Lincoln's Jaycee Vath won the Girls 3200m (11:26.48); Toree Slavik of Thunder Ridge took the title in the Girls Discus (117'11") and the St. John's boys team of Ben Thompson, Nicholas Greenwood, Timmy Greenwood & Brayden Perez won the state title in the 4x400m Relay (3:33.05).
