
The Lincoln Lady Leopards and Osborne Lady Bulldogs will begin their state tournament runs on Wednesday, as Lincoln will compete in the Class 1A State Tournament in Hays and Osborne will be in Manhattan at the 2A Tournament.
The Lincoln girls will tip-off at 6:30 at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays against the #2 seeded Argonia Lady Raiders who enter the game with a record of 25-0. After winning just 15 games combined in the previous three seasons, Lincoln enter's state with an 18-7 record. Lincoln got to state by way of their Regional Championship at home and Lincoln, and then getting past Clifton-Clyde and Bern at the Sub-State tournament in Clay Center. Jenna Farris has been the story this season for Lincoln as she averages 23.5 ppg, but took that to another level at Clay Center in Sub-State, scoring 45 and 36 points in the two games. Farris is the only player averaging double figures. Jennifer Crist is the second leading scorer at 6.8 ppg for Lincoln. This is Lincoln's first trip to State since 1990.
The Osborne Lady Bulldogs (18-5) will take on #3 seed Spearville at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan on Wednesday. Osborne is no stranger to the 2A State Tournament as they finished 4th there in 2008 and 3rd in 2007 and won State Titles in 2000 and 2002. A few of the players from this year's team have had state experience, but for most of them it will be new. The Lady Bulldogs have been led this year by Jordyn Sturgeon who is averaging 11.6 ppg and had 18 in the Sub-State final against Rock Hills, including a layup at the buzzer that gave the Lady Dogs the win. Emily Girard is adding 9.7 ppg, while three other players, Paige Noel, Andrea Cady and Katie Wolters, are all averaging 7 or more points a game.
