The Kansas Rim Rattlers participated in the national Mid America Youth Basketball tournament in Oklahoma City and finished with four wins and two losses.  The team advanced to the final 16 teams in the 50 team tournament!  The team was made up of the following local players; Vanessa Kresin and Kinley Kee of St. Johns, Bailey Brown and Cami Engelbert of Beloit, Jenna Farris from Lincoln, Blair Bloomfield of Clifton-Clyde, Amanda Fleming from Rock Hills, Dani Pounds from Sylvan Grove, and Maggie Leonard of Marysville.
The Rim Rattlers got off to a slow start in the first game of the tournament against a team from Tulsa.  Vanessa Kresin led the offense in the 34 to 42 loss to the Tulsa Lady Jammers.  The second game was a big win, 51 to 25, over a team out of Kansas City, Mo.  Strong inside scoring from Cami Engelbert, Blair Bloomfield, and Kinley Kee fueled the offense, and the press led by Vanessa Kresin with three consecutive steals and lay-ups got the Rim Rattlers off to a 11 to 0 lead.  The third game against a team from Arkansas was another blowout victory 56 to 32.  A good transition game led by Maggie Leonard, Dani Pounds, and Amanda Fleming helped build a big halftime lead.  Jenna Farris shot the ball well to lead a strong team offensive effort!

The fourth game was against one of the most athletic teams in the tournament out of Conway Arkansas.  An intense defensive effort out of a 1-3-1 defense slowed down Conway and sparked the transition game as Vanessa Kresin, Jenna Farris, and Bailey Brown created a lot of steals.  Kresin and Farris had several steals and assists to each other in the 50 to 34 victory!  The three and one record in pool play resulted in a tie with the Tulsa Lady Jammers, but Tulsa one the tie-breaker with the head to head victory.  The second seed out of pool play resulted in a match-up with the Arkansas Lady Rebels in the first round of bracket play.  Kinley Kee got the offense jump started and the key to the 52 to 46 win was getting the tempo at a fast pace.  Jenna Farris and Vanessa Kresin once again led the offense and Bailey Brown clinched the victory by going four for four from the line in the last minute of play!

The victory over the Arkansas Lady Rebels put the Rim Rattlers into the top 16 teams in the tournament.  The final game of the tournament and summer was a 29 to 57 loss to a team of players from Kansas and Oklahoma!  The summer record of 22 and 6 included winning the Kearney and Hutchinson tournaments!  The players deserve a lot of credit for the commitment they gave to the team this summer.  Numerous coaches, referees, and fans in every tournament gave the ladies nice compliments about how well they played together!
