The Tipton Cardinals golf team won the KSHSAA Sand Greens State Championship on Monday at Leonardville Golf Course. Aaron Henke (3rd, 81), Eddie Koenigsman (7th, 86), Justin Brummer (9th, 91) and Dylan Hollerich (T10th, 93) combined for a score of 351, which was 30 strokes better than 2nd place Chase County, who had 381. Ben Hake was also part of the state championship team for Tipton. Rounding out the team scores, Riley County finished 3rd with 384, LaCrosse 4th with 392, Yates Center 5th with 398 and St. John's 6th with 446. The state title for Tipton Catholic is the 8th Sand Greens Golf championship in school history.
Individually, Rock Hills Junior Tycen Higer was the state champion, shooting a 77 on the day, which was one stroke better than 2nd place finisher Brett Herrman of LaCrosse, who shot a 78. For Higer, it was his second individual state title of his career, as he won the Sand Greens gold as a freshman in 2015. The aforementioned Tipton golfers were the only other Top 10 finishers in the area.

The Osborne Bulldogs claimed the 1A State Golf Championship on Monday at Sugar Hills Golf Course in Goodland. The Bulldogs had a combined team score of 360, which was 6 strokes better than 2nd place Olpe at 366. Jetmore finished in 3rd with a 375 on the day. This is the 2nd state championship in Osborne's boys golf history. They won the Sand Greens title in 1975. Seniors Tanner Conway and Justin Burch were the top individual finishers for the Bulldogs. Conway won a playoff to finish in 3rd place, shooting an 81 on the day. Burch won a playoff to finish 5th with an 82. Other members of the championship team are: Steele Wolters, Kade Miller, Logan Corbett and Jordan Wherry.
The North Central Activities Association saw some good things happen on the golf course on Monday in State competition. In Class 2A, the Sacred Heart Knights claimed their 3rd straight 2A State Championship, finishing the day with a combined score of 309, which was 7 strokes ahead of Pittsburg-Colgan. All of Sacred Heart's top four scorers ended up within the Top 12. Junior Grant Herrenbruck was the State Champion, shooting a 73 on the day at Southwind Golf Club in Garden City. Cole Elmore (3rd, 76), Tate Herrenbruck (6th, 79) and Quentin Shaw (12th, 81) were the other top scorers for the Knights. Other members of the state championship team were Rase Welsh and Charlie Skidmore. Also from the NCAA, Republic County's Justin Tietjen finished in 8th place with an 80 on the day.
At 3A State Golf in Independence, Southeast of Saline Junior Jake Huffaker was the individual State Champion, finishing with a 77, which was three strokes better than the 2nd place finisher. Fredonia took the team trophy in 3A, as just four strokes separated the 1st and 4th place teams. Fredonia scored 341, followed by Hesston with 342, Cimarron with 344 and Sabetha with 345.
