GRACIE RINER & LEAVIE RINER, Women's Tennis
Osborne Senior Gracie Riner and Sophomore Leavie Riner have been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athletes of the Week.
The Riner sisters of Osborne finished in 5th place in doubles at the KSHSAA 3-2-1A State Tournament at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka this past weekend. They had a first round bye and followed that with a three-set win over Lamatsch & Metro of Central Plains. In the quarterfinals, they lost a hard-fought match in two sets, 7-5 and 6-3 to Coonrod & Rippert of Ellsworth, moving to the back side of the bracket. An 8-2 win over Neumann & Branam of Wichita Classical put them into the consolation semis, where they won 8-6 over familiar foes Billings & Keesee of Phillipsburg. In the 5th place match, they came back from a 4-1 deficit to win 9-7 over Sprague & Latta of Marysville. After a 4-1 finish at State, Riner & Riner finished the season with a record of 27-2.
We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
