Beloit Freshman Dakota Gray has been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athlete of the Week.
Gray is off to a stellar start in her high school career as she has won 13 gold medals, two silvers and two bronze medals in her first five events. Over the past week and a half, Gray has picked up seven golds and a silver. At the Belleville Lions Club meet hosted by Republic County on April 18, she took home four first place medals, winning the 100m hurdles in 16.38, the 300m hurdles in a season-best time of 48.28, the high jump at 5'2" and as a member of the 4x100m relay team in 51.76. On Friday, April 21 at the Phillipsburg Invitational, Gray took home three golds and a silver. She won the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.91 and tied her top high jump of 5'2". She also won the 300m hurdles in 48.70 and the 4x100m relay team took second place. Other gold medals this season included the 300m hurdles and high jump at the Smith Center Redmen Relays on April 11, the 100m hurdles at Concordia on April 6 and the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 4x100m relay in the season opening Clay Center Invitational at Belleville. Gray also brought home a second place medal as part of the 4x100m relay at Smith Center and third place medals in the high jump at the Concordia and Clay Center meets. Her season-best time in the 100m hurdles is 15.88 in the prelims at Smith Center.
